Gibson as it should be (Well, for some)

So walking into the local Ma and Pa music store just to see whats good, and I came across a 2010 Gibson SG Bass with all the mods everyone wants:

A DiMarzio Neck Pickup

A Hipshot Super Tone Bridge

And, the most unique part, and a good mod in my opinion, the finish on the back of the neck was removed, and done so very well.

An interesting, and very 'tasteful' take of the modern SG

$750 with an OHSC, pretty good IMO

Why wreck the neck?
I have never had a problem with mine feeling sickie, always been smooth as silk.
That would take a lot off the price for me.

What makes you think that everyone wants these mods? Personally, I prefer to leave basses completely original with no mods at all.

As was in the title, it "For Some" lol

Biggest complaint I always see is the 3 point bridge, I really dont mind them myself, but some people really dont like them.

I don't mind the finish on Gibson necks either, but if it had to be naked, this is the way to go:

You didn't say if you bought. it. With these mods, I'd offer them $600.00, tops.

I didn't buy it, no.

But Idk, must be you had to see it to appreciate it.

Even with the finish to wood sections being as they where, it was still smooth as silk and played like butter.

Taking the finish off is just silly, plus it looks like crap. Especially near the body. $750 is a bit much for a heavily used SG bass.

I actually do not like the sound of the DiMarzio Neck Pickup, I think the original SG neck pickup sounds sweet.

But the supertone bridge is a big improvement, made a big difference on my SG bass.

agreed,,,, I have a dimarzio neck on my ripper which I bought like that and it only sounds good when I have it backed off to about 7,,,, it sounds to spongy with fingers for me,,with a pick its okay but I rather have stock.

No offense OP, but I'm not impressed either. IMO, except for maybe the bridge, those are horrible mods, especially the neck thing.

What kills me is that the SG bass is a well made bass, aside from the questionable bridge. That someone would ruin one of these gorgeous short scales with a half-assed finish removal and an unnecessary pickup replacement is downright criminal.

If you're going to do a "mod" to one of these, do it right. Give it the old EB3 setup.
