Thumbs up Giving "p" a try.

Through the magic of classifieds, I'm going to be a proud owner of a Fender P bass.

In the endless quest for ones own tone, I hope that this ones the last that I trade for. I'm a big fan of the "PJ" set up, so what differences can I looks forward to?

New basses are exciting things. I'm wondering what's the difference between a good p and an average pj?

I'm hoping, really, that the precision in the pj tone is what defines the sound. I currently use an esp ltd b-50 fm that is amazing for the price. I can't talk it up enough.

So, what defines the pj tone, pickip- wise? I'm curious and hoping the move was the right one.

Aside from the sound, what neck does your PJ have?

I know people who cannot get used to the p-neck....
enjoy your P though!!

My P/J is mostly dominated by the P pickup. I can turn the J pickup 90% on to add some higher treble and burpy mids on top of the P sound, 100% to get the unique P/J phase cancellation sound, roll the jazz pickup to 100% and the P to 90% to get a burpy sound with super thick low mids supporting it, or pull my series parallel switch and it turns into a growling monster.

The neck is 34" with 24 frets. It has a rosewood fretboard. I'm a fan of the slimmer fret spacing, but have been working on getting used to the larger spacing.

I usually keep both pickups on the highest setting and adjust the volume at the amplifier.
When I feel the song needs a little less oopmf, I roll the P pickup pot back a bit.

The bass is passive with "tone boost". I don't know if it makes it active or not, but it does sound good.

Turn the J pickup off on your current bass. That is what you can expect.
