Too bad rezdog...

I saw another thread here awhile back asking of a A5 or A4, I forget, with a piezo bridge issue. Never went back to see what the resolution was.

I almost traded a TBer a bass for his A5 fretless but after some research I felt the newer model I bought with the Lace-Sensor magnetic pup at bridge may offer me more features.

I look forward to using this bass in a Tx Blues band and a C&W band I also gig with. Though I'm hoping I wont get any feedback issues at some of those closely setup, small stages we gig now n then. I was doing a a living room practice thru a Neox 112T cab, with two acoustic-gitars+vocalist, they were in the PA. Low volume, we were all facing into center of room. Started getting some feedback on my A5 when the guitars started strumming hard. Maybe us all facing each other caused that. We would never be setup like that at a gig.

But I'm still learning the settings on this A5 so maybe I can control that better with time. Good luck with your A4.

Just ordered my first Godin: a new A5 fretless. Very excited. I played double bass MANY years ago but have been safely hiding between the frets ever since. Bringing on a new (renewed?) challenge but ready to take it on! Looking forward to exploring the Godin's sonic possibilities and lurking in this forum :-)

I have an A4 Ultra Fretless and it's fantastic. You will need this when it arrives Controls

Godin Shifter Classic 4

I just played a new Godin Shifter Class 4 and really liked it! It has PJ pickups, vol & tone, and a, hmm...I forget if it was a 4 or a 5-way switch!

It played really well and gave me all the P & J sounds I'd need. Nice fretwork, too.

I personally didn't care for the translucent black stain but the gloss creme brulee is really nice.

I think I may have to buy one!

That P/J Creme Brulee bass is the one I'm thinking of buying in the next few months. I've been playing a 5-string exclusively for several years now (my Godin BG5), but I'm thinking of going back to a 4 (and using my 5 for only cases when I need the B).

First rehearsal with my new A5 fretless tonight -- what a beautiful sound! It sounded good at home but in a big room through my Ampeg BA115 (itself nothing all that special) set to a healthy level, the bass really came alive. I love the freedom of the fretless but I do need to practice my intonation :-)

BG-IV

Hi, I have two BG-IV's, one with EMGs, the other with Fred Hammon Dark Stars, you can't go wrong. Nice P-bass nut width (1.75") and a solid performer.

How much are you paying, that enters the equation?

oh, wow - wish I had never seen this

I've almost scored an AE4 or 5 several times - tried 'em - wasn't quite 'it'

but, I do have a Multitac guitar which kills at the nylon string electric thing AND is a midi controller - I know several great jazz guitarists who play these live as the best all round go-to instrument

I've got gas for one of these Fless basses now

BTW, their quality is superb

I just pulled the trigger on a Shifter Classic 4 Creme Brulee... I found a used one on eBay and just had to go for it. I'll have it for Easter Sunday service this weekend.

For those with Shifters (3 pickup or Classic version), how are the bridges? I tend to always replace stock bridges, but it almost seems like the one on the Shifter is pretty beefy. Thoughts?

I'm also not even sure what aftermarket bridge would replace it, but that may be easier than I think once I actually see the bridge for myself.

I'm also looking to hear about experiences people have had with Shifter Classics. I had a chance to play one earlier this week, and it was the best feeling bass I've tried out in a long time. What a fantastic and fast neck! Unfortunately I wasn't able to plug it in, but hopefully I can head back soon and try it out again.

One particular thing I'm wondering is how people find the weight on these to be. One I tried weighed in at just over 9lbs. Another one I tried seemed significantly lighter, but there wasn't a scale around to test it out with. I'm looking for something lightweight to help counter stress on my injured shoulder - could this be a bass that is light enough? I'm hoping to find something 8lbs or less.

Count me in on this club!

I just got this in partial trade for a custom mahogany Telecaster. It was from the original owner. He says he bought it in the early 90's and it has spent all of its life in its case in his closet. It is in like new condition. the serial # is 17862. I put batteries in it and it sounds soooo sweet. I hope I can get used to playing a fretless.

What can anyone tell me about this? What are these things even worth?

Thanks,

scott

I wouldn't try to play a fretless if I were you ... Lot's of carpal tunnel, scoliosis, and halitosis issues with fretless bass playing. Scary stuff!

I'll tell you what. I'll take that baby off your hands and spare you the structural, musical and social stigmas on myself. What do ya think... a hundred bucks plus shipping? Yea, that sounds good to me...

Anyone else??? How about it guys, don't you think that would be a good deal (for me!)

Congrats on the new toy! I have an A4 Ultra, and they are fantastic basses.

Count me in on this club. I used to own an L.R. Baggs model (the first version of the A4), which I bought right after it came out, then sold it, got an A4, sold it (don't know why) and now have a new A4, one with the MIDI out that I don't use. All of these were fretless models. The latest is my main axe for jazz now, as no one likes my URB playing as much as my electric playing here on Cape Cod. Can't say as I blame them, because the A4 is such a great instrument. I'd tell you what a great deal I got on this bass, but you'd be jealous, so I won't. Suffice to say that patience can be rewarded on ebay.
