Good deal on a Blue Burst Rickenbacker?

I have a chance at a 2007 Ric 4003 Blue Burst at $2499 in the USA. Serial # 0711550. It needs a setup pretty bad.

Is this a:
1. bad price
2. fair price
3. good price
4. great price

Thanks for your opinions!

Seems pretty high, most ric's on ebay are ~1750

Crazy expensive. You can get a new Ric for about $1500 shipped.

IIRC, Blue Burst is a rare color though, so I can see it getting more money.

Yeah the Blue Burst does command more, they only made them for a couple of years, but how much more?

Probably a question better asked in the Ric megathread.

Not that much more.
Tell him to knock $1000 off.

People on ebay are still operating under the assumption that Ric's are rare and 2 grand.

The finish is worth whatever it is to the prospective buyer. ME? I wouldn't pay $2500. It's USED remember.

that seems pretty expensive to me. You should be able to nab one of those under $2000 for sure, probably even lower than that. If they're not willing to negotiate, I'd look elsewhere. If the colour really is what makes it for you, hold out and be patient; another will come along. It always does

Price is high. Should be in the mid to high teens even in blue.

I see these on Ebay asking $4000 and selling for $2600 to $2800 so I was curious.
The completed auctions on Ebay only show 30 days of data so it can fluctuate higher and lower than real market value especially when there are only a few samples.

Thanks for the input, folks, I will pass on this deal.

Unless Blueburst is the reason you want this, pass. But if the whole point is to aquire a Blueburst Ric, the price is not too terribly high. On the high side, maybe, but certainly not outrageously high, imo.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

You could buy a brand new 4003 in Maple glo for $1650 and have it finished in blueburst by someone like Marty Bell, Pat Wilkins or a Ric expert like Paul Wilczynski and still have $500 or so left over.

I'd certainly pass at that price.

I see those are 4004 Bluebursts going for around $2000. Do 4004s normally sell for less than 4003s?

It is "about" right for a blue burst. They only did the color for one year (I believe) so it is a little on the rare side....

However, I will defer to Ric owners with more experience on the subject - I play 'em, but I don't buy them all that often..

Let me add, however, that I passed up a CS (Chris Squire) back in '93 because I didn't want to fork over 2 grand......I'm STILL kicking myself in the ass over that one....

All right doggone it!! I did a little research and I need some help here....

I was under the impression that "Blueburst" was the color of the year in 2005 but this bass (in question) was built in 2007...

Did Ric (apparently so) continue building Blueburst models after 2005?????? Like I said, I'm confused - which would make sense with the lack of sleep recently....

I was thinking the same thing actually...which made me wonder if this particular Ric was authentic or refinished, but I'm still new to Ric's in general to really know.

I looked up the serial number, it was made in the 11th week of 2007.
If it is a refinish it is a fine job. I've never seen a real Blueburst up close so I couldn't say for sure.
