Okay first off I have to admit to being a bit biased as I am a Carvin user.

This appears to be an older (late 80's to mid 90's) LB75 which with a Koa neck and body is around $1,400 new. I took a quick trip through the Carvin builder on their website for the numbers.

For me $500 for this bass is not a bad deal, good deal sure, although it's not an amazing deal. Carvin suffers from a low resale when compared to the quality of the instrument. Kind of a win for you potentially. Id does have a neck through body so severe warpage or a broken truss rod could be expensive repairs later. I am always hesitant with used gear as people do stupid stuff sometimes, but if I had a chance to play it first and everything was in working order I could see going for it.

It's a fair price, IMO. I got a used LB76 (six-string) with an alder body a few years ago, approximately the same vintage, for about $650. Koa would be worth more; five strings instead of six, a little less. And he's open to offers. Worth checking out, IMO.

a Carvin Koa five-string for $500 is a sweet deal. As those above said, play it - and if it's not warped or dinged, do it.

I'd want to know a little more about why it has new electronics, a new bridge, and new 9v pickups.

If this bass were stock, $500 would be an ok price. A fair price, nothing to write home about, but a good value for the money.

Judging by the body profile and hockey stick headstock, looks late 80's to me. With all that koa, I'd say it was worth it as long as there was nothing at all wrong with it and it played nice.

I have a LB75F with a Koa body and maple neck that I bought new in 1992. The price was in the $700+ range. They had changed to a 3+2 headstock so that bass must be an earlier model. My bass has 4 knobs so the electronics in that one are anyone's guess. The pic is too vauge to see what the bridge is - could be a later Carvin bridge or something else. I have a Wilkinson on mine.

You can probably negotiate the price closer to $400. The bass might be great but unfortunately the resale value isn't.

I was asking him more about it because he's a couple hours from here. Seems he forgot the headstock was cracked when he got it. Deal off. Thanks everybody.
