It arrived that way. I tried leveling but didn't notice that the high fret was actually not seated properly. Unfortunately I noticed after it was too late.

Just got my sunburst+rosewood P (last one they had in stock), and honestly I'm just at a loss for words.

My Squier VM came with every fret edge sharp, super buzz, crap intonation, crap neck pocket, crooked nut slot - $280.

Xaviere; Not a single sharp OR high fret. Perfect intonation, not a single blem anywhere. Tight as hell neck pocket.

I'm seriously just lost for words right now. The only advantage my Squier has is the hardware and electronics, so I'm going to swap all of that to my Xaviere and sell the GFS part equipped Squier on craigslist.

GFS pickups are fine, just sound too lifeless, Duncan Designed are the better budget pickups IMO.
Tuners absolutely SUCK, <--- only bad point on this bass IMO.

I will now proceed to take a Friday night off work to play this bad boy, set 'er up, and enjoy life!

Have a good weekend everybody!

Funny, I started this thread and 20 pages later I still don't have one of the basses. I really planned on getting one but I have been so happy with my SX Jazz I really don't have the desire any longer. However, the sunburst P with maple neck would be a great match to my Jazz.

You're missing out, bro.

Also, to my knowledge nobody has tried yet so here it is;

Fender and Squier necks DO fit, but the holes don't align and are a different size. So if you want to put a Fender neck on this, you'll have to drill some new holes!

Just received a post on my FB page from Guitar Fetish. Looks like they now have an acoustic bass available too.

http://www.guitarfetish.com/XV400-Su...mp_p_4626.html

That Fishman preamp with the built in tuner looks kind of cool.

I just got the Xaviere J back and I lined up a standard Jazz pickguard. It's not a great fit. You'd need to cut the neck pocket and drill some different holes. Looks like it fits around the pickup and control plate well enough, but the "upper bout" portion of the bass is off. Again, you could make it fit, but you'd have to drill new holes and modify the neck area of the PG.

Forgive me if it has been covered already in this thread, but does anyone know what pots the bass comes with? Are they the pots they offer on the website in 250k value?

Yup. Every piece of hardware on the bass is from GFS. And yes, 250k.

Paulownia Bass Bodies On E-Bay

Stay clear of E-Bay seller justdave1538. He is buying Paulownia bass and guitar bodies from guitarfetish.com for $55 and selling them on E-Bay for $75. Greasy, greasy guy!!! Folks, if you want a Paulownia bass or guitar body.....buy from guitarfetish.com for $55 not from E-bay seller justdave1538 for $20 more. justdave1538, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Nice to hear about some of your expreirences with
these basses .Iwas going to order one of the
xavier p basses but I'm curious about the final costs.

1.price of bass
2. tax
3.shipping to Chilliwack,B.C. Canada
4. customs duty
5.additional chrgs by frt co.
6? $ additional
near as I can figure probably $420.00
at this rice I'll be buying a squier vm p from my
local Long+Mcquade

I know the shipping to me plus the duties/tax is the
biggest hit , but I still want one!-just cant do it

Has anyone out west have the same products?
Has anyone got one north of the 49th
cheers

A pal of mine wanted a video of my pair of Xaviere basses, so I thought I'd also post it here. I gigged on these most of last year--not all night, but each of these saw action on several real gigs. The strings have been on there for a year (GHS Precision Flats on the P and GHS Boomers on the J). Still glad I have these.

http://youtu.be/DbWPS3cVYN0

No signal processing at all in this video--the bass goes straight into an inexpensive combo amp. The drum parts (and bass transcriptions) are from Ed Friedland's awesome book R&B Bass Masters: The Way They Play, which is an awesome book.

As cheap P & J copies go, you can't beat these guys. The J is actually kind of heavy, but it's no big deal--lighter than my Ric.

Great stuff Steve! The flatwound sound on the P is outstanding. Thanks so much for the clip.

Bringing an old thread back to life, I know. But I am just super excited to finally be getting my hands on one of these. I feel like we should start a specific Xaviere owners club and have that be the place for all of our rambling, rather than this thread. It'd sure be easier to find in a search.

Anyways, I just ordered my Xaviere P. Ivory with maple fretboard. I love the sunburst ones but they are out of stock. My (very close) second favorite was the ivroy with maple neck. I was looking at their page while my wife was sitting next to me and out of nowhere she leans over and goes "I like that one" pointing to the ivory P with maple neck! She almost never interjects when it comes to my bass/guitar/drum interests so I took this as a sign. I ordered it right then and there. Shipped to my door in a brand new hardshell case for $260? Yes please!!!

Anyways, I can't wait for it to get here. I've been playing a SX jazz 6 string with Audere pre exclusively for quite a while now. I'm getting back in to recording with my old band and I just knew I would need some classic passive P sound in there, hence the purchase.

The awesome thing that I realized is that if I ever decide I want a different look, I'll just order the sunburst body off of guitar fetish and swap it out! Or just throw on a pearloid pickguard! Saves me the cost of a brand new bass. I do however, love this look. Can't wait.

Call them before you do this. I own both the P and J of this bass, and the neck pocket is different from the GFS replacement bodies (I have one of those, too). It's been a while since I have had the necks off these basses, but they are not a direct fit--it would require some modification.

I still love these basses: the P is on loan to a young player I know who is working his way through the Jamerson book; the J is my backup Jazz. My very favorite GFS product, though, is the lightweight replacement Jazz body. My main bass now weighs only 7 lbs because of that body!

Welcome to the "club"!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely check on that before ordering a body. If the neck pocket has to be widened, I feel comfortable doing that, as I've done significant mods on other basses, but obviously if the neck pocket is wider, there not much to do about that.

I have a set of Chromes lying around that I'm looking forward to putting on here.

So... after I placed my order I was checking the site and noticed that the ivory p-bass with the maple neck was listed as "out of stock". I just figured that I got the last one. Score, right? For some reason, I decided to email them just to make sure that I got the last one and my order would be fulfilled.

Wrong.

I got an email back a few hours later stating that the bass that I paid for was out of stock. Brutal.

I ended up ordering the ivory P with the rosewood board. Still excited, but obviously not my first (or actually second) choice.

Just kind of "grinded my gears" a bit.
