I'm really hoping they add some of the colors that they offer on the guitars, particuarly Capri Orange... I'd love a backup to my CO Fender P. These do look nice.

FYI, I've got audio clips of the GFS pickups here: GFS Clips

Not crazy about them myself. I'd probably swap them if I bought a GFS bass.

Thanks Dan. Super-helpful as always.

I just A-B'd the GFS P against the SD SPB-1, the difference is pretty subtle with a slight edge to the SD. But it's really close to my ears.

Me too! That orange is beautiful, and I want an orange P with white pickguard to couple with my number 1 - cream white with orange.

Also, I really like this one:
XV-870 Solid Ash "Dark Ash" Finish, Pearl Pickguard, Rosewood

It would also be pretty neat if they introduced a good quality, affordable, loud ABG.

I have to admit I don't quite get the excitement over these.

Just another line of Fender copies to me - aren't there already like a bazillion companies making the same old tired Fender copies?

I'm sure these may be good basses, but really - nothing new here...

That's not the point. Why does it have to be something new? I think people get excited when they think they might be getting a good deal on something. Why all the fuss over the SX basses? Because they're cheap.

No, you're right, they're nothing new, and certainly not earth shattering. But I'm excited to see these because they represent another mod platform that is ridiculously affordable. I like to build and mod, and I don't want to spend $170 on a bass body when I can have an entire bass for that price, so that's my angle.

Electracoyote pointed out that they're also another under-$200 choice for a backup/kick around/student bass. IMHO, you can't have too many of those. The more decent, playable, entry-level type instruments we have, the better.

Yes, the ad copy borders on silly, but I've heard some pretty nice things about Xaviere guitars. Perhaps some of that good stuff will carry over to their basses.

I sent these guys a message asking about a fretless bass model. They said they have no plans for a fretless bass right now since they just started selling basses.

If I hadn't just bought a MIM jazz bass, I would have jumped on that 3 tone sunburst jazz bass copy.

Sent them a question about that, and about an hour later the maple board photo was gone. :-(

Will do. On a total whim, I just pulled the trigger on the sunburst P. Shipping was under $20. Can't beat it with a stick.

Back when Standing in the Shadows of Motown came out, I bought a MIJ '62 re-issue P for cheap, strung it with LaBella flats, put on the covers, then tried to play the whole book with one finger. Let it go years ago on eBay. Here it is:

I'll probably do the same to this and keep it as a cheapo Funk Machine. I'll post pics, etc. when it arrives.

Lots of fun for $180!

--Steve

P.S. I was never able to play all the Jamerson lines with "the hook," but I sure learned a lot. Might try to do it again with this puppy.

That's a bummer! I wonder why they have both necks in the P but only rosewood in the J? I plan on owning that sunburst P with the maple neck as soon as I sell something else to justify the purchase. Either that or Guitar Fetish can send me one to do a full review on since I started this thread and gave them some extra publicity!

I've been mulling over getting one of GFS' P body's for a bass project and will prolly do it after the holiday's especially after hearing all the good things ya'all have been saying about their quality. The fact that the bodies are VERY light and have a decent finish on them for an insanely inexpensive price is RIGHT up my alley.
