Hand Made Italian Bass

A friend of mine is the owner of the LAURUS company.
He made great basses, all hand made !

Here you can find an article (in Italian Txt but there is also a video) about one of his great basses.

LAURUS Mod. Quasar T 900 – 5

Let me know what you think about it :-)

Ciao
Alberto

I know. Beautiful basses but a bit pricey. If he only developed a second import line, he would increase sales and expand the brand capillarity, see Frudua, Manne, Warwick, Fender, G&L, Ernie Ball-OLP etc.

Alberto: che dirti? What can I tell you?

A presto,
Claudio V.

I's been 15+ years that I'm aware of Laurus, very first time being clinics of Red Canzian from The Pooh. I can vividly remember something that took place at Lucky Music's in Milan.
I love Red's and Pooh style, that's why, even into completely different kind of music I play, I now own many Fender Jazz basses
Problem being, if you can get my point even talkin' about masterpieces, their undisputing unbearable value, so much so that, if you're no acclaimed professional, very much like Red's or Rai orchestra maestros who, together with Massimo Moriconi, played them from the very start, Laurus basses are way out of reach

Cheers,
Wallace

I agreed with all of you. The Laurus are expensive basses and I haven't the money too for such beauty :-)

But I felt in love with the design and the quality of the materials. That's why I made the article .

Thanks for your reply

Alberto

Alberto

Wood & Tronics is another outstanding Italian handmade bass worth checking out as well.

also very lovely.

it seems that Antonio Stradivari is very much alive and well, through the efforts of these amazing craftsmen.

I tried those and disliked them.
As well made as on would expect these days and not bad but just not for me. And whilst the body shape is not particularly good looking and made the bass quite uncomfortable to play( to me) the head is downright ugly IMHO.

To each his own. It put a smile on my face.

The two I tried, felt good sounded good and looked good. Nicely made and well designed IMHO of course.
The tone when amplified was very close to that when un-amped which made the instruments feel real nice. The pickups seemed just right for the instruments I had the chance to try out.

They are all so beautiful! I am very pleased to see that there are some makers that are not afraid to make a new design for the headstock.

Only going by the pics, I don't read Italian. The body is beautiful!!!! Not to crazy about the headstock though, but then that is just personal preference.

headstock: remember that they are all headless basses; therefore those are not headstocks but rather... "bookmarks"!

Here an example of another 'headless bass.
I think that in this case it has worked out in the looks department

http://www.lefay.de/english/bass_capone.html
They are also extremely well made and comfortable to play.
Lefay also make their own bridges and pickups as far as I know.

Well...the one I posted does have a headless bridge. I guess that makes it somewhat of a hybrid.
The point was that if you are going to lock the strings past the fretboard , you may as well make it look good.

Aesthetically it's not my cup of tea.
