A Greco bass that I had just got the pups replaced and that sounded like I wanted it too now and a Guild fretless that I had done the same thing a year before and that was amazing.
My son was eight at the time and he got is XBox stolen and he was pissed off at the fact that he would have to restart from scratch all the games levels he already done before as they were saved on it. That was funny to see him explaining that to the police officer.

It was a place that had a gear storage room behind the stage with an exit to a parking lot behind the building. I'm pretty sure it was taken by the local band on the bill that night. They left behind my Rickenbacker and their bassist also played a Ric that night. He also had a Gibson Thunderbird and played through a big old Ampeg SVT.
The bartender gave me a phone number to reach the band. One of them answered but denied taking the bass. Big surprise.
There was nothing I could do at that point. My band mates weren't interested in helping me track down my bass and we had to be in a different city the next day. |

I got it back both times myself....no cops. The 1st time a room mate stole it and pawned it for drugs. I figured it was him and knew where he pawned it. I just went and got it back for $40. The second time was in Hawaii when my house was burglarized. I watched the newspaper classified section until it came up for sale. Then I went over to the guy's house and looked at the bass under the ruse of buying it. It was mine. I then pulled a .38 special and walked out with it. I hate the cops and wouldn't call them for anything. The other time I had a '68 Telecaster bass stolen from the trunk of a friend's car in Austin. Never got that one back. |

| | | | Sad thread. I've been burglarized three times. First time was my first real bass amp, a GK 400 rb, an old Acoustic 215 and a pretty rare Ampeg 215, plus a rack of 80's PA gear- a graphic EQ and a compressor. The equipment was in the house I had been renting, but everyone left and we were all subletting, one of the subletters let his crackhead brother in to steal the stuff.
Second time was at a gig, this joker was sweeping when we showed up for load-in, and he immediately engaged me with all this BS talk and attitude- "You know who Larry Graham is? He's my cousin!" and I was like yeah, I know who that is and really, just leave me alone. Since he was sweeping I assumed he worked there. Turns out not so, when we were upstairs, with all our gear on the stage, he walked out a side door with my equipment bag- all my cabled, tuner, spare strings, and my stash were stolen. I asked the bartender, who was in the room the whole time, where he had gone, and she was a total loser- "I don't know". I said he works here doesn't he? She said, "No, I thought he was with you." Right, that's why he was sweeping the floor and asking me if I knew Larry Graham, and was here before we were. Bands always show up and sweep the floor, don't they? What a clueless b!tch. I hate that club- Alley Cats in Richmond.
Last time was the worst. Some low-life hood, Jeff Nash, of Waynesboro, VA, robbed three basses from us because we had "dissed" him by not allowing him to rob us with his usual MO, which was to visit and ask for a house-member, and if they weren't home to say he'd just go up to their room to leave them a note (surprising how many people fell for this). He was a well-known thief so we asked him to stop coming by. So he came by at 4 am, and because my roommate was stupid enough to leave the door unlocked while he was out riding his mountain bike in the middle of the night Jeff Nash stole my 77 Jazz, a MIM Jazz, and a really nice fretless P with a DiMarzio pup. All basses were eventually recovered, but only because I was tenacious in pressuring the Charlottesville Police in keeping on it. My detective never visited Nash, even asked me where he lived- couldn't figure even that out on his own. Fortunately a woman detective from Waynesboro was investigating some stolen music equipment in that town and did know where Jeff lived, and stopped by the C'ville squad house to visit with friends before she went over. My detective was at least smart enough to show her pictures of the stolen instruments, and Jeff was dumb enough to leave them out in plain view of the front door. So she recovered them. Nash completely walked though, the MIM J was recovered off of someone else who said Nash had sold it to them, Nash evaded that by saying he had bought it from someone else. He also said he had bought the other 2 basses off of someone who had just moved away from town. The police did not even have the capacity to contact that person and catch Nash in the lie. When we got to court the judge just threw it out. Some people really do suck, and Jeff Nash is one of them. But I got all three basses back, thank goodness.

I assume it was a pretty safe assumption that the seller was the thief, right?

| | | | Back in 1982 all of our bands equipment was stolen from our rehearsal loft in Williamsburg Brooklyn. At that time Williamsburg was a dangerous place and not the hipster disneyland that it is now. Imagine showing up to play , opening the door and everything is gone. I found most of our stuff in the window of a music store on 48st for sale. The guy sold it back to us for what he said he paid for it. The only piece that was never found was my 1976 Rickenbacker 4001. It was was black and I had the pickups and electronics customized. It had Bartolini P/J and active preamp with 3 band EQ It had a black custom made pick guard that covered up all the carnage and looked like it came from the factory like that. It had some of the paint rubbed away above the bridge pickup from the way I played it. Its probably not worth much today but I really want it back. |

Four True Bills for One of Waynesboro's "Most Wanted"
He was considered one of Waynesboro's most wanted, until his arrest last month. Now a grand jury has endorsed four felony indictments against Jeffrey Nash.
Nash had several outstanding warrants when he was arrested last month in West Virginia, and extradited back to Waynesboro.
On Monday, a grand jury returned true bills on four charges: Failure to register as a violent sex offender, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a drug.
Nash is due back in court for his so-called "plea day" on July 27. He can either enter a guilty plea or have a trail date set.
This was from 2004.
Here he is today: http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov...ml?regId=9335#

Man I miss that little thumper, but it's nothing compared to my friend who had their entire truck , trailer , PA, and instruments stolen in Texas . Some guy just drove away with the whole thing including two Modulus Q5's and a six string. I still feel bad for him. |

| | Registered User | | | | | All stolen while touring/ doing shows in my 30+ years of gigging:
Fuzz pedal stolen right off the stage (during break down. 1990)
1973 powder blue fender p-bass (stolen during load out 1989)
1982 sunburst custom built from parts jazz bass (stolen during load out 1986)
Macbook pro 12" in backpack (stolen during load out 1997)
I consider myself lucky.... compared to others who have lost everything.
The trend with my losses, as you can see (including the pedal)
was to be preyed upon during the confusion of loading, usually earlier in my career where band mates and myself were a bit younger and thus, unorganized due to inexperience.
I would have never lost the basses if there had always been someone at the van (both were snatched out of the back while loading).
The P hurt the most, it was a loaner and rare vintage color...
I replaced it, but with the same year in natural (luckily these were actually not so expensive at the time, under 400 bucks).
Lessons learned, everything insured for replacement value now. |

Is that really the legal situation in the USA - they're allowed to re-sell stolen goods? | No it is not, it is normally a total loss for the pawn shop. Fencing stolen property is illegal. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
