Headed to guitar center right now! Which bass should I get?

I'm on my way right now. Preferably fender. Already have an American standard p. opinions are welcomed!

A young bass player and an old bass player were headed to GC.
"Hurry!!! Let's run there and play a few" says the young guy.
"Let's walk there and play them all" says the old bass player....

Do not set foot in Guitar Center with that mindset! The sales droids can smell GAS.

$$$$ + no clear concept about what to get usually = bad impulse purchase. If you're looking for a second bass, think about what you want that's different from what you have. My three BGs (Franken P w/ flats, Ibanez ASB140 w/ rounds and Darkstar, Danelectro Longhorn) do different things, and that's how I chose them.

I can't go to Guitar Center. Even though its not a bass the one near my house has a custom buck eye burl Framus that makes me want to sell my truck, as well as one of the most beautiful stingrays I've ever seen.

That's some good advice. Thanks!

I purchased a VM Squier jazz today, complete with three tone sunburst, maple neck with block inlays, oh boy, so sexy.

make sure you take a good look at their used rack, they sometimes have some gems they don't even know what they are....plus I would never buy a brand new bass, you can get a lot more for your money in the used market, as long as you know how to judge them...

I'll bet that most of the basses you try out wont be set up properly, if at all. Good luck with that.

I don't agree on the used thing, but really depends. Example, I'll be getting a brand new Epiphone Thunderbird Pro cheaper than GC is selling the used ones and I will have no warranty issues on the Epiphone side. Not sure of GC's policy or maybe it all works out when GC sells them used...

I dont see the point in having many different fenders. Aside from which pickups are in it they are all the same. To me its like having two vehicles and they are both pickup trucks. You would prob be a lot happier with a pickup and a car

Uh oh !

Without a vague idea of what you want or at least what you are looking for, I do not see this ending happily.

If it's like my GC buy the only one with a decent setup. You'll probably find it in the used section.
