Help a bass-newcomer out with tone Hey guys Ive been a drummer my whole life and I just recently decided I wanted to pick up learning the bass guitar. I guess I really just wanted help picking out my first bass, and trying to find this specific tone. Anyways, I really want to be able to emulate this sound, whether live or recorded : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztmV1exprW0 Also similar pure tone, to this track with that deep slight grumble that hits you to the core: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwuM-IDh3pE (I know thats a VST bass guitar, not a real one) Currently Im looking at the Squire Modified Jazz bass 5 string, and the ESP LTD B205sm 5-string. I know the ESP is much better suited for metal, but it just looks so damn awesome! Would a P & J bass be better suited for this sort of tone? (I realize he probably did post production work to the sound, but still...) http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JBassSVVMNat/ http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/...ic-bass-guitar I also purchased a Hartke Attack bass preamp to help boost and shape my sound. Any ideas for a good sub $400 bass that can get damn near that tone in the video? Note: I will mostly be using this for recording purposes, so lets pretend an amp is out of the equation. When I will be using an amp, it will be my band-mates. Sorry if this is too newbie for this forum, Id understand. Anyways thanks a head of time! -sacky |
I think that Squire Modified Jazz bass 5 string is more than capable of getting that tone and remember technique also plays an important part of getting "that" tone good luck with your search. |
Thanks for the advice man! Yeah I definitely will be learning my fair share of technique, and adjustments to my instrument. Appreciate your input though. Too bad, I really love the look of the ESP. Anyone familiar with Jackson basses? |
