I was just writing about my interest in trying out a Reggie Hamilton Jazz
on another thread mere minutes ago. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to hold or try one out, but there's a whole thread devoted to them. Fender Reggie Hamilton Bass Club
Based on your criteria, here's some points about it that might interest you;
- Passive/Active switchable.
- Precision/Jazz pickup configuration. A good number of people here agree that it's a very versatile setup. (I know I do!)
- It's not a five-stringer, but it comes with a Drop-D tuner, so you can drop down to "D" or lower on the fly.
- They go for $900 brand-new. I've seen used ones go for $500 or so.
As far as weight or fret-access go…I can't say, but it' probably weighs/functions the same as any Fender Jazz bass. I hope this helps out.
