I also found this Peavey, does anyone know if it's a USA made one? It's only $130

That Peavey is indeed USA made and great bass! It's a Foundation S.

I am a beginner & tried to love Fender basses, but fell in love with the slim, fast neck of an Ibanez gsr200.

I have to also mention a Fury. I picked up a beat up one. Stuck on a badass bridge that was laying around. Put on a set of D'Addario Chromes and it proudly sits in the midst of more expensive basses. Great sounding bass

For those that keep posting about the Squier VM, I really do like those( aesthetically speaking, never played one), but I don't drive and the nearest GC is about an hour away, so it's pretty tough for me to get out there to try one to see if I really do like it

If your only gonna be able to spend $300. Buy used. Nothing new in that price range is good choice imo.

I found some great deals on GC's used page, and i think i may go for one of those. With the left over money, I think i should get a new amp. Any reccomendations on a good practice combo? I'll just be using it in my room, playing for myself so it doesn't have to be really big or have a lot of watts, I just want it to sound good.

That is a stellar deal. My first bass was a MIM Fender P Bass.

I know you want a small combo, but consider getting a bigger combo, so you'd have the option to jam with others.

I bought a Fender BXR 15watt combo many years ago with the same idea of a practice amp. Unfortunately, that was all it could do.

If you got an SWR Workingman's 12 or 15, it would defintely get you what you need, plus you have the ability to play with others. You can find a lot of these used.

I own a SWR Workingman's 10. I like it, but it struggles against a guitarist and drummer.

I think Hartke and GK make budget-minded combos as well.

+1 on the Peavey Foundation you found.
With its P/J pickup configuration you will be able to cop many different tones.
For $130, I can't think of many more solid choices as your first bass...and i even like the color

Ok guys, I think I've decided. I'm gonna go for that Peavey and use some of the leftover money getting a good setup and some nice strings for it. Thanks for your help everybody!

One more thing..for those who own/ have played a Peavey Foundation: can you play slap on it? I'm pretty interested in learning slap so any input would be great.
