Help with future GAS

I am playing for about a couple of months now (I'm an adult female) & would love to someday upgrade my bass. I currently have a Squier P-bass, and an Ibanez gsr200. I strongly favor the Ibanez, which seems easier to play due to my smaller fingers. That said, I was wondering what would be a great sounding bass for the money to upgrade to. I would pay no more than $400-$450.

My advice: Save the money and play more. The GSR200 is a great bass. Sell the P for even more money and save that as well. When you think you're ready, go out there and use all that saved money to buy a big boy toy, like a Sadowsky or a Lakland. Or maybe a high end Ibanez. Look used when making these purchases. Now is a great time to be a bassist.

Take a look at the new SBMM Sub series at GC. They run about $279. Look for the SB14 which has the thinner neck.

The SB14 isn't part of the SUB series, is it? Mind you the Rays in the SUB range do have the thinner neck.

Thanks! I like the GSR200 too.

Sorry...it is the SB4 not SB14. Here's a link for the thinner neck model. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Sterling...05-i2442870.gc

I just saw your post and was also WOWed by the sound of this bass. Definitely on my "want" list! Thanks.

Biased as I may be towards certain models and brands, I do have a possibly relevant suggestion for a number of technical reasons.

That being said, I'm wondering if something with a slimmer-at-the-nut neck with a tighter fretboard radius might suit you. Specifically, a Fender Aerodyne Jazz. Here's some differences and similarities it has to your P-Bass;

Width at the nut: 1.5" vs. 1.625"
Fretboard radius: 7.5" vs 9.5"
Weight: 8.5 lbs.
Pickups: Precision/Jass combo configuration (you can get your familiar P-tone or literally "Jazz it up"…in other words, a nice variety of tones)

Here's a good sound demo; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE076ensK8Y

A new one would be out of your price range, but I've seen used ones go for $450. But all that aside, if you can get access to one to try out, see how it feels first. Some people are a little thrown off by the physical differences between it and most other basses. To your hands, it may or may not be a good fit.
