Indeed the aforementioned Matsumoku bass. Jonsi from Sigur Ros uses one as well. They were "developed" by Gibson as the replacement for the Epiphone Rivoli (the US-made version, on the Gibson-line) to be made in Asia, so the US-made Gibson EB2 wouldn't have to stand up against an identical bass. They have little to do with the original EB2, since it's a longscale bolt-on neck, with a full-hollow body (the EB/Rivoli was a setneck shortscale semihollowbody)
And there were EB2's with 2 pickups, from 1966 onwards there was the EB2D, with a minibucker at the bridge.
