Help ID this bass..
A friend of mine's father had this bass forever, and we're trying to figure out what it is...the only other bit of info that probably doesn't help is that they've lived in Houston forever...I'm going with something Japanese, bought in Sears or something like that...Attachment 360966Attachment 360967

Junky Japanese basses did not discriminate. :D
Austin Basses...at least the headstock. My guess is that it had a different neck at some point in its earlier life. Being made over seas most likely and having a non tapered neck heel that fit other makes is quite likely.

It was definitely made in Japan by Kawai and would have been imported into North America under a host of different brand names like Tele-Star, Winston, etc.
That's an early Fodera. Hang on to it, it's worth 10 grand :)
