Help me bring this bass back to life!

Hey Folks:

About 11 years ago, I took my 5-string Ibanez bass apart and gave the body to an artist to paint. He threw a bunch of colors onto the body, and I "kept" the rest of the parts. In the time since, I've moved 4 times, had a baby, had a couple jobs, etc...

Now, I really want to put the bass back together and bring it back to life. Problem is, I lost some of the stuff.

Here's what I have:
  • Bridge
  • Tuning Machines
  • Neck
  • Back Coverplate, screws, etc
  • Cavity Cover

So, basically, I'm missing the pickups, pots, and knobs. In the picture below, there are three pots attached, but they've since been removed and lost. There are three pot holes and a sizeable back cavity.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on this project, but I do want it to play well and sound good.

So, tell me, experts - Which pickups, pots, "guts" for this bass should I get? I've never tried a project like this before. BTW, I'm not totally opposed to dropping a preamp into it. The price just has to be right. I'll look at new or used stuff.

The pickup cavities are 3 3/4" x 3/4"

Here's a picture:

Check out some of these sites (I'm not affiliated with any).
You can get a Jazz bass wiring kit with the pots, cap, and wires.
Pickups are your choice. Maybe some other folks have a recommendations.

Good catch. Those pots were not treated kindly during the painting process and had to be removed. I'll be needing new ones.
