Loopee , This is Talkbass, take harsh criticism with a grain of salt. About the same thing happened to me a few years ago. I have dealt with Tom a little bit and he seemed real cool and patient and everyone from Ed Friland on down raves about the quality to cost ratio of Toms Basses.

Will be posting #270 for sale soon

To the OP and the other poster...

I recently purchased #270 from the original owner here on TB. Far be it from me to take money out of Tom's hand a second (?) time - but if either of you would like to purchase it, I will make a nice deal for you, to keep it in the family and put it in the hands of someone who will use it. It's a redwood top Kim with a maple tone block / neck and limba wings, for the person who was wanting darker wood. A beautiful instrument. (btw, his site lists as a 35", but the original owner informed that it's a 34", and I will measure to dblcheck - it does play like a 34" to me). It also has 19mm spacing.

Bass is in the same condition I got it; I'll explain more in the full, formal posting I put up for the bass (to protect buyer / seller), but if either of you PM me, you will be first in line when I put the posting up in a few days.

As for why I'm getting rid of it - I've got a fretted Roscoe on the way, and need to move this one as a result. But it was a nice way to try out Mr. Clement's handiwork, which is top notch. I will definitely commission one from him at a future point, exactly to my specifications.

(Mods: This is not an ad, per se - just an advance notice of one, as I'm traveling and can't make the ad up today. I promise not to negotiate / sell until I put the formal ad up).

I'm considering going with a walnut body, ebony fingerboard and black limba or maple neck.. No clue about the pickups haha
Some very nice builds, Toms style is great!

grain of salt....true.....still I don't like being called a flake when I'm not, I've purchased 3 more basses since.....and as soon as I'm 100% sure I want a fretless, I'll be giving Tom a call

I have Tom's build #94 and its my #1 four banger.
I went kind of crazy with the wood selection- especially the body top. But Tom was a total pro and worked tirelessly with me to get everything done.

My bass has SEVEN different woods in it!! Pretty standard swamp ash body and Tom's thin black accent veneer (IIRC he called it black anigre?) and it gets crazy from there. A GORGEOUS burled redwood top that he found for me. Then the neck is a 5 piece. Bubinga core, 2 wenge stringers and 2 walnut pieces. Then the fretboard- cocobolo.
And the pickups are my own mash-up of Duncans. A Quarter Pounder P and a MM running through a Bart 3 band preamp (forget the model). Black Wilkinson tuners and a black Hipshot A bridge make it complete.
Absolutely LOVE it and I cant wait for the time that I have the $$ for Tom to make me a 5er.

Just as an aside... I got the Roscoe in hand...and after comparing it against my Spector, I think I'm going to *keep* the Clement for now, and sell the *Roscoe*

I can't blame you.

I'll be buried with my Clement.
