Help me identify this Fender bass !

I just got my first Fender bass, as i am not an expert, so i'm not sure about my bass. Is that a real Fender or just a clone. Please help me.. Pics are below

The Serial No is: F039389

The tuning machine is Gotoh ( not traditional fender tuning machine )

On the neck and body: PJ36 ( L)

Full frontal pic please.

Edit: A quick google search show a ton of Duff-type *Jazz Specials* but not a single one w/Gotoh tuners.

I think you have a MIJ 1986-87 bass there. Lot's of guys are buying up the 80's basses on e-bay, so I'd hold on to that one.:)

1991 - 1992 Japanese Fender Jazz Bass Special?

By the tuners, I would guess its a MIJ P-Lyte, but a full picture would help.

It's possible the previous owner may have replaced the stock tuners, maybe to save some weight. Though I dont see any extra holes from the old Fender tuners.

Lytes had a differently shaped tuner

My thoughts exactly. Did find this though:

Those look like Gotoh tuners.

There's one in the Oddball Fenders thread on Talkbass as well. So it looks legit :) Probably Japan, late 80's, early 90's or something (EDIT: Texsunburst59 is right about the serial on this bass). Can't find any more info on them unfortunately. Fender doesn't even mention them in the "Other Fender Basses 1980s and 1990s" page on their website.
