IMO, it may have been a Westone with a Yamaha sticker on the horn to fulfill an endorsement contract, possibly a early version of the Super Headless. There are other period videos where Michael Benson is playing Westones, but they are a different color than the ones shown in the earlier posted Youtubes.

What it is not, is a standard Yamaha headless of the time...nor is it an Ibanez Axstar, a Cort, a Gordy, or a Hohner Jack. Interesting thread.

It's not an ibanez axstar n the horns look too rounded to be a Yamaha BX n I'd say the Yamaha logo is a sticker too. My guess is a one off or custom job or possibly a modded Westone Superheadless or another obscure 80s maker like Riverhead. Headstock string clamp is not steinberger, status or any of the double ball types. We need Bass CSI!

Micahel Benson the bass player of Mashina says this bass is called QUEST.
the Yamaha logo is probably because he bought it in the 80's from local distributor of Yamaha product and they put the logo for the TV appearance..
anyway, i cant find any info about this Quest headless bass.
