Why play a bass you don't like? Why waste time complaining about it.

GET THE JAZZ AND SELL THE RICK!!!

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

Agreed. I wish you would buy something you can at the very least put strings on. I'm starting to doubt there even is a Rick.

This doesn't sound like an issue with the bass, it sounds like an issue with your own ability. I suppose some people are happy enough taking their bass to a tech for a set up, rather than learning to do this relatively simple task themselves, but stringing a bass? Really? If you can't string it, maybe you should take up keyboards.

I think most Ric users would be happier seeing someone that incompetent playing a jazz bass ...

As a Ric user, I'd be happy seeing people playing their bass of choice.

There's no need to throw insults around.

Here's an idea: Put flats on you Rick and never change them.

Just out of curiosity, why are you thinking that it will be easier to change strings on a different bass? Especially if you're changing them one at a time now...

This is a dumb thread, and it's the second time you've posted it. Your second guess is correct; it's not any harder.

string help rickenbacker 4003... I always mess up with the A and E.
I guess some folks just can't deal with anything other than 4-in-line tuning keys so the strings all go the same direction.

Practice may help alleviates these symptoms.

A jazz bass is an excellent choice ... and if the OP likes it better than a Rick then that is what he should play. I have 2 jazz basses and 2 Rick basses I like both.

Ricks are the best bass for everybody ... neither are jazzes.

Nothing like trying to help someone and not only have them ignore advice but post the same thread again to get more attention. The OP doesn't want help obviously and isn't serious about the fact that apparently he is unable to perform the most basic tasks involved in playing an instrument. Pissed off more at myself for being trolled.

I'm out.

If you can stand the cheap metal, uncomfortable body corners, and bad pickups...the Rick is ok. They do tend to be free of dead spots on the neck.

So you're having an issue with f*cking up 2 strings at a time?

This is a weird thread, man. Stringing a bass isn't rocket science.

I've owned 2 4001's. The '74 Fireglo did have a beautiful finish. It looked like Brachs candy.

OP: If you're too lazy to use string cutters and don't know how to use superglue I'm not sure any bass in your possession can be blamed for perceived problems.

- Cut the string about 2 inches past its respective peg. That'll give you about two windings.
- Put a 90 degree bend at the last 1/2 inch of the string.
- Insert into peg hole, the bend will pre-position the string.
- Wind. As you wind, make sure the string winds UNDER the previous winding to keep it properly angled from the nut.
- Tune up, and rock that sucker!

If you're using Rotos, use Long Scale.

Seat the ball end in the tailpiece and then wrap it around the tuning post 2 or 3 times. That shows you where to cut.
Then cut it and string it up as normal.

I just found that neat trick after too many years so that's how dumb I am.

Really? All the 4001's 4003's I've played just sang all over the neck. Since this is such a huge feature, I say the Rick passes the test.
