that Mercalli one seems rather "solid" to me; no thanks. I have 9 solid body fivers already! I was posing the old, rethoric question "why they (99% of the builders) regularly skip the V strings version when they develop a new beauty"!!!

Does this count? It has a hollow body... just more hollow than yours.

Rob Allen Deep 4 fretless

Here is my Rob Allen Deep 4 fretless. This chambered bass is about 11 years old, the first Deep 4 made according to its original owner. This 34" scale bass has a single piezo pickup in the bridge. The top is Koa, the neck is walnut with a lined ebony (macassar) fretless fingerboard. I use black nylon tapewound strings from Status Graphite in the UK. This bass feels great to play and sounds terrific - very much like an upright. No need for a number, just wanted to share.

Mine is a Brownsville (Sam Ash house brand). I know very little about it other than it has a 30 in. scale, 24 frets (go figure) and Beatle Bass like controls.

I'm toying with the idea of different pickups. I have it strung with nylon tape wounds and I like 'em.

Wow that First Act is super nice! Can I ask how you bought it? I could never figure out how to buy anything through the First Act web site when when it involved the custom models. How do you like it compared to the Lakland?

Your bass looks a lot like a Epiphone Allen Woody model. Pretty cool!

The old artist rep there gave it to me...AWESOME bass.

If I could only have the Lakland or the First Act...shoot, that'd be a tough one. The First Act is huge a tubby...sounds and plays great. The Lakland is a little more comfy for longer sets...sounds a bit more modern than the First Act. Really the only 'issue' I have with the First Act is it's a bound body and I always seem to tear up my forearm on those kinds of bodies. The Lakland is super easy to play, light, GREAT neck and is possibly balanced a bit better.

Not sure that helped

Thanks!

When I bought it, used at Guitar Center , they also had a used Rumblekat hanging on the wall. The Kat cost at least 3 times as much and didn't play as well. I didn't hold them up to see if the body was the same size. The Brownsville has an F hole that the Rumblekat does not. There are a lot of other differences to, but at first glance they do look like one another.

I wish that there was more info available about both Brownsville and Carlo Robelli instruments (guitars and basses). They seem to be single production run instruments that slide through Sam Ash never to be seen again (except on the used market).
