Hot Rod Precision Bass

Was just wondering if this is a rare Hot Rod P bass or not because I haven't seen another one like it. 3-color sunburst with maple fretboard.

I have an interest in the Fender Hot Rods / Precision Bass Specials and whatnot. Just going off of what I have seen available via used, it seems somewhat rare. For one, you don't see too many maple fretboards. And I can't say that I have seen very many sunburst finishes either. So yeah.. you might have a rare bird.

Congrats!

It looks like a parts bass to me. (Replacement MIA neck?). Or a MIA P with an added J PUP. Are you sure it's all original?

Pjmuck it's all original haven't replaced anything on it. I've searched the 3 color sunburst online but all have rosewood fretboards.

I bought it new in 2001 and so happy I did because its been a great bass. Very unique tone I feel.

After August of 2000, the "Hot Rod" became the "Hot Rodded."

I have one, am not a fan. Worst V/V/T Syndrome in all the world.

There is also some Fender that is virtually indistinguishable from the HRPB visually, but a cheaper model somehow, and there were a lot of sunbursts of them. I don't remember the model. That may be what this is.

Email Fender with your serial #, they'll tell you.

That old, maybe not -- but worth a try.

I've had them drop the ball on this a time or two, telling me the instrument doesn't exist, but sending them a scan of the distribution label on the box suddenly made the record show up. Weird.
