How to move up from my Squier P/J 5...Carvin PB5!
Well a new Carvin catalog came in the mail today and what do I see? But new PB4 and PB5 basses! I searched for threads here, but found none. I can't believe there is no buzz on this!
Yes, Carvin now has P-basses that match their killer SB and B series basses! And the usual Carvin options are what blow my mind! For example 5 string and P/J like I had to mod my Squier to get one. But unlike my Squier, these come with a premium grade alder body, and you can order things like active/passive or ebony fretboard or even better FRETLESS Ebony fingerboard!
In the past I've not been a huge fan of Carvin bass tone or style, but I think that changed with the SB4000/5000 series and now the PB series is the icing on the old school cake! (I do love my (fretless) Carvin AC50 though)
My only downside is that the P/J bridge pickup is single coil which means you have to put up with great tone but single coil hum. (My Squier P/J 5er has a Dimarzio which doesn't quite balance, but doesn't hum either)
The Bottom line is Carvin's new catalog is giving me a massive GAS attack! I really, really, would like to know what a passive/active P/J 5er fretless with blank ebony fingerboard would be like! <sigh>
