Humbuckers vs. Split coil/Modern Player vs. Blacktop So I posted about getting my hands on a bass that sounds way different than my American Std jazz. I love the playability of the neck and the body is real comfortable. So there are two options I'm eyeballing. The Modern Player jazz and the Blacktop jazz. So - one's made in China, one in Mexico. One is humbuckers, one is dual split coils. Fender describes the MP as a beginner bass, but it's priced exactly as the blacktop. I've read threads on both - so anyone get to play both and can make a comparison. |
Im bumping this for you because I am also curious about this. The MP is a great deal im just concerned that the humbuckers are cheapish and wont give the type of tone I would be after. |
I just wanna know which has more CA-HO-NAYS Even if its not the MP vs Blacktop Just double humbuckers or double split-coils? I've heard good things about both lines and would love to end up with both if they're different enough. |
I A-B'd them very briefly in a guitar center... the dual Split P sounded a lot better to my. I also can't help but think about "upgradabillity"... and a split P pickup has MUCH more variety than the dual single coil. |

He's right my friend: they're more dual coils than humbuckers Quote:
RotoSound swing66 strings and full step downtuned it with no pickup swappin' at all, for its distinctive uber vitaminic sound) Cheers, Wallace |
