| | | | Humbuckers vs. Split coil/Modern Player vs. Blacktop So I posted about getting my hands on a bass that sounds way different than my American Std jazz. I love the playability of the neck and the body is real comfortable.
So there are two options I'm eyeballing. The Modern Player jazz and the Blacktop jazz.
So - one's made in China, one in Mexico. One is humbuckers, one is dual split coils.
Fender describes the MP as a beginner bass, but it's priced exactly as the blacktop.
I've read threads on both - so anyone get to play both and can make a comparison.

| | | | I just wanna know which has more CA-HO-NAYS
Even if its not the MP vs Blacktop
Just double humbuckers or double split-coils?
I've heard good things about both lines and would love to end up with both if they're different enough.

I also can't help but think about "upgradabillity"... and a split P pickup has MUCH more variety than the dual single coil.

I ended up optin' for a BlackTop Jazz instead, where I put Hipshot BT7 bass extender
RotoSound swing66 strings and full step downtuned it with no pickup swappin' at all, for its distinctive uber vitaminic sound)
Cheers,
