Hyundai P-Bass (P for plywood)

I had no idea Hyundai ever made instruments! My Dad found this old bass for me on a construction site and the owner gave it to me.

Its full of signatures from artists that played in a small dive bar. I`m gonna get ride of all that and try to make it look nice again. The body and neck are still in great shape even though it doesn't look like it. New pots and jack and it should be all set.

I tried searching to get info on these online and all the google results I get are for Hyundai car stereos bass eq....

If anybody know anything about it that would be cool. If not no big deal..its free

Here are some pics:

Not made by Hyundai the car manufacturer... but think of it like Yamaha, who have their name on everything from Basses, to Jet Ski's, to Keyboards.

Still, neat bass!

Yeah thats what I figured too. I should call the dealership and tell them I need to get my Hyundai serviced and show up with that

I wonder how old this thing might be? I assume it is probably from Japan...

Actually, Yamaha's instrument division has the same parent corporation as Yamaha motorcycles, boats, etc..

The logo looks similar to those used on Hyundai's cars in the 1980s.

Well, I haven't found anything on your bass, but apparently Hyundai made plywood guitars too: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r.../brand/Hyundai

As said Hyundai are just a big Corp with their fingers in many pies!!! A local place to me were selling Hyundai acoustics almost 15 years ago. I was an apprentice at hyundai dealership at the time, nearly bought one for the sake of it!!

They built piano's too that were a bit more reputable so the guitars usually got sold by the piano dealers.

Shoulda kept the graffiti. You can't buy mojo like that. All's it needed was a little Dunlop 65.

The people who signed this bass were the members of The Stick People, Gregory Hoskins's band.

We have a grand piano made by Daewoo, who also makes cars. It was funny when we got one as a loaner when our car was in the shop.

I also would have kept the signatures. Instant character. Without them it's just going to be another import bass that people will complain about not being a Fender.
