I just saw a Squier go for $521 on ebay

:eek:It was an 80's MIJ medium scale P-bass. I have been hankering to try a medium scale bass for some time, so I put in a bid of $200. I never expected it to go up to $500. Guess I have to do the down tune with a capo trick, or pick up an SX.

I know Fender released the medium scale Telecaster bass. Maybe 32" P's and J's will be next.

The highish cost is because the 80's MIJ Fenders and Squiers are highly sought after and were the best Fenders being made at that time.

+1 and IMO the best even built by Fender except the Pre-CBS years.

The Squiers of then are not the Squiers of today (though Squier is making some pretty good basses these days). Most of the mid Eighties stuff was made in Japan... Very high quality.

There were plenty of people back then who would not touch a Squier because it was made in Japan and was a "cheap" instrument.

+1, and I was one of them. I was working at a small music store that was a Fender dealer. I was always interested in the US Fenders as they arrived, but basically just did a quick once-over with the Squires and put them on the rack. They were "only" Japanese guitars, after all. Strange, because my Ibanez Jazz copy had been my main bass for 5 or more years at that point, because I couldn't afford a US made bass.

The SX jazz is a great instrument after a bit of setting up. Amazing tone and sustain. If your looking for a flatter neck, the gypsy rose can treat you well too.
