I need help!!!

My job has recently requied me to travel from home 2 weeks out of every month! Therefore, I can't play my bass when I am on the road. I can't bring my bass and amp with me. This sucks.

I am losing my skills. I used to play every day.

I have a vox device that I can plug into my bass and use with headphones.

Anyone know of a portable bass that is small enough to travel with that I will not have to check as baggage for an expensive fee?

Find an airline that serves your home and usual destination cities with a good frequent flyer program. Use them exclusively and bag fees will soon be a thing of the past.

I used to fly with a cheapie steinberger "spirit" bass specifically for that purpose. Headless, short, small rectangular body, had a tiny little gig bag and it fit in even the tiniest overhead compartments.

You can usually find them on eBay. I think I paid about $300 for mine several years ago.

Could you maybe just pick up a short-scale SX or Squier, or something like the Ibanez Mikro? Just a thought.

When I traveled even to gigs, I would pull the neck off my 76 Jazz and throw it in my luggage. I wouldn't even pull the strings off the tuning posts.

I'd take my fender copy and just remove the neck to make it more compact.

I used to do a TON of travelling for a defense contractor. In 2011, I spent 10 months on the road. I always brought at least one bass with me. Carry it on the plane. If it doesn't fit in the overhead, it will fit in the crew closet. Most crew members were very accommodating.

I bought an Aria Sinsonido for my commute though it doesn't involve flying.

It's 40" long top to bottom and the "bouts" are removable to make a very compact package.

It's extremely lightweight and the pickup system allows you to plug headphones directly into the output jack so you can do away with the amp while traveling.
