Lublin, That is a beautiful Thumb bass indeed! The combination of grain and flame in the Ovangkol is just incredible! Thanks again for sharing

That is nice. The thumb I have has some flame to it like that but nothing like yours, much less equal on both sides.

I did notice it looks like it is a Wenge/Ovangkol neck....is that ovangkol running up the center of the wenge? That may be a custom shop bass......

Thanks guys! I just got done playing some funk on her. Such great snappiness and bark. Love it more and more every time I play it. Wish it was a little more balanced but I'll make it work as the tonal reward is tremendous.

They do for some...but to say they "all have" is simply not true. I've seen so many examples where they don't, even though you might have experienced it in your case.

So what makes one dive like a dolphin and another not?

It all depends on the person, and how you wear the bass, mainly. I've watched Jack Bruce with his - he takes his hands off it and it doesn't dive at all. I also asked Ryan Martinie about neck dive and his Thumb basses, and he has no issues with it either. Like I said above, I've seen many examples where the the Thumb bass does not exhibit neck dive...and I've also seen some where it does. But to say "all have" is, again, simply not true.

Again, what is it that makes one dive and not the other? Just the way you wear it?

Apparently so. It all comes down to strap length, and how it sits on your body. I personally have no issue with it, myself - I wear basses in a way that has them up, tucked into the side of my body. But I see most people who have the issue wear them low.

Someone at the factory made that and forgot to put it aside for themselves. When they came back it was already packed up and shipped out.
