I stole this!! Sometimes you just get lucky. I found this gem on craigslist. It took 9 days from the first email to nail the guy down to do the deal. Family emergencies and blizzards kept me from my prize. I must have sent a dozen each of emails, phone calls, and text messages. Plus a couple of hours on the road. All I can say is 'man did I score a deal on a great bass!' . And now without further ado... This is a 1985 G&L SB-1! This bass has been on my short list for a long time. It is a beautifully yellowed white finish, 1.75" wide neck, and best of all, really old stainless strings!! The signatures are from members of Jethro Tull. And here is the killer part: I paid $200. (No case, but who's complaining!) ![]() ![]() |
.. THIEF!! ... good for you :) |
WOW!!! Unreal deal on a killer bass!!! Congrats bro!!! |
Those early G&L maple necks are super sweet, congrats! |
Nice :D You've definitely beaten me at bargain hunting. |
AWESOME. I love stories of killer finds like this. Enjoy that baby. :) |
That's about the Fenderest looking G&L I've seen. Does it sound Pbass also? |
Wow congrats great bass and one of my favorite bands I would make her a wall hanger the sigs make her special. |
What was wrong with the guy? :hmm: |

to the op, congrats on the buy. I like it. |
You have a bass with Dave Pegg's signature on it. You magnificent bastard. |
Wow! Congrats. |
A crime for sure - that bass must be confiscated. Send your address. Yes - there ARE some great deals from motivated sellers. Recently I missed a Warwick Thumb for $600 and an Ibanez Soundgear 4 for $50. |
Yeah, I've had some disappointing misses too. Mostly, of the 'oh, I just sold that.' variety. I was really worried this one was going to get away. The guy had it on consignment for a while. He decided to move out of state, so he put this up on CL. I honestly don't think he realized what this is worth, although he knew he was selling it cheap. He couldn't even remember what model it was when he posted it. Being a 'P' guy, I couldn't be happier. Although I am sure I would have been just as happy if it was a L-1000. |
Way cool. Grats! |
This is total win! Don't be prissy about the signatures you're never going to sell it So play that thing!! (And if you do PM me) If you leave em on for a bit and you let the sun hit it a few times not only will the paint start turning cool colors the signatures will leave "tan lines" as they get wiped away so they'll always be there. Or just goo-gone away the To Tom part and write in your own name. WINNING |
Far out. Looks like it could be a Leo Fender signature one, but hard to tell on the pic. If it is, even mo better. |
I say this as a devotee of Leo Fender designs, huge fan of Jethto Tull, and, with affection: You, sir, suck. |
