Ibanez 806.1605E vs Carvin Icon 5
Hey all- my first posting.
have a bit of G.A.S happening. in my sights are the Ibanez 805 & 1605E premium and the Carvin Icon 5.
my last new Ibanez was in 1979 a Musician 924- still have it !
and have lost touch with their mid priced instruments current build quality- since they make only high end basses in the Japan factory now
I have some concerns about the build quality of the Indo., made basses. the premuim 1605E burl Poplar model is almost the same cost as an Carvin Icon 5
. my main focus on the Ibanez is the use of burl poplar one of my fav. woods. I have a Spector Euro with a poplar top which is quite stunning.
anyone have one/ All =) of these basses? please give your opinion!
I've been going through a similar debate. I was tossed up between the ibanez btb 1406e and having carvin do a custom build. I went with the btb, just got it yesterday and I'm amazed at the sound that I get from it. Play ability wise its similar to my srx605 but a thinner neck and longer scale make it easier for me to play faster on it. Fairly light also considering mine is a 6 string. So far I'm very happy with it though. Idk if it helps but thats my experience so far. Still have never played a carvin very interested though.
I just bought an Ibanez SR 805 (5 string) and really am impressed with it. It has a lot of presence with the Bartolini pickups. Fantastic sound! Carvin makes a nice bass as well, but my opinion is that the Ibanez would probably hold its value better.
