ok...so about....id say 4 or 5 months ago, I was in the market for a new axe. my SR-495 finally gave me my last gig. it had a crack on the back part of the headstock and when i opened my case after a gig, i found it in pieces.
...anyway, i started looking. i looked at the new Stienbergers, some schecters, some ibanez, and fenders, but i ended up settling on the Ibanez ATK-805E. Let me tell you this thing is better than anything I've ever played. but it had a few qwirks that i didn't expect. when i got it home from guitar center, the intonation was way off...fixed that. because of the adjustments, the action was off...fixed that too. but there is one thing that i must seek some expert opinions on
the pickup balance, doesn't do 100% of its job. basically it acts as a 3 way switch as opposed to a balance pot. you know forward is just neck, center is both, and back is just bridge, no meld of the pickups in between. so my question is why..... on the ibanez basses i've owned, past and present, this has never been an issue. the ATK pickup system is different from all the other basses they make, the neck is a standard J style, but the bridge has 2 separate coils, and you can switch between the front coil, both and the rear coil...really this is the reason why i bought the damn thing....so versatile...but anyway.....i don't know whether or not this has anything to do with it, but it may, all the other basses ive had by Ibanez were either 2 J's or 2 soapbars. i thought of a bad pot, replacing it...stuff like that... however i just figured i'd make a shout-out first.
