picked this '01 btb405qm up in trade a few weeks ago.
its my first fiver, and so far im loving it. i dont really care for the sound of the bass by itself, but in a band setting it does very well. im very happy with mine
its quite a hefty bass, i got it fitted with a mono strap and its much better now.
has anyone removed the stock pre-amp and converted to regular passive electronics (vvt maybe)?

I have recently picked up an Ibanez BTB570FM (love that green) and I am really enjoying the bass. Do you experienced BTB owners have any suggestions on EQ settings on the bass to really bring out the sound?
Also, I am thinking about putting some DR Black Beauties on it tonight. Any other string suggestions?
Thanks in advance! |

As for the EQ adjustments, you just have to play around with them. Everyone's ear is different. I have mine pretty much flat (centered) on my fretted and on the fretless, I have the mids & highs up a bit.

Really comes through very well in the mix, too. The DR Black Beauties really fit very well - I like them much better on this one than the Elixirs. |

in good shape, worth about half that. not sure how to price it with the damage.
my BTB406 has similar damage in the same spot, although not as extensive. I think my preamp got damaged too (and bet yours might have).
you could always cut out the area and put a pickguard there.
parting out is another option.

| | | | Would I need to cut out the area or can I just put a pickguard over the tone/volume knobs? I work at a machine shop so I have asccess to a bunch of strap metal and milling machines. Making one won't be a problem. |

Just bought my second BTB today.I believe it is a 400QM. Was looking to make it fretless but I may just leave her alone for awhile. She is a bolt on neck and I believe she has Ibby Pups and Pre.Wondering if these are correct assumptions ? The other is my 1999 BTB1000E made in Japan, bolt on with Barts etc.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2013 Location: Bellevue, WA | | Just picked up my BTB I just picked up my BTB675 today . This is my second bass (after 35 years of guitar ) and my wife decided to head off my patching together of junk. I'd gone out to find an active P-Bass, but she pointed to the BTB and said something like "Pretty, play."
And she was right. It is fantastic. Errrm, but now I gotta figure out what to do with the extra string (I think I'll manage).
After an hour and a half, it is everything that I'd hoped and expected. However, I hadn't considered weight, this sucker is heavy... |

| | | | Could anyone who has used both tell me the differences between the BTB575 and BTB675? According to the comparison on Ibanez's website it's a just a different wood/finish. I'm more interested in the tonal differences, though. I prefer the looks of the 575, but if the 675 sounds much better I'll get it instead. |
