Is there a preamp in that bass? It does sound like a bit of a mess; if it were my bass, I'd at least put a Bart J pickup in the bridge spot, and probably put a Bart preamp in there too. I had a Carvin LB-75 once, and wasn't really impressed with the pickups.

I guess I'll give my TalkBass "Hello there" introduction here as well, as I havent anywhere else

First and foremost, I play a 2008 Ibanez SR400QM... or 'Naomi' as I like to call her.

She's in the process of a make over, albeit very early in the process. I'm beefing up the pups (any suggestions as far as nw pups go GREATLY appreciated), and I'm also giving it any and every aesthetic customization I can.

As for the flesh, I'm only in my second year of playing, and am self taught with very little "formal" understanding of theory, but I jam and believe I have "experiential" understanding of the bass-ics, if yuh dig. I founded a jam/blues/indie band called The Plants with two of my compadrés about a month ago, and were playing our first set on the 19th.

Anyways that's my deal, I'm a young bass player, not yet 19, who is looking to carve his own path in the bass playing world, and I'm here because you all seem like cool chaps who are doing the same. I play an Ibanez and love it, and it's definitely a lifetime bass that I'm going to hot rod like crazy. Oh yea and I'm from Canada.

I'll have pics of Naomi uploaded soon, just gotta find my camera and set up a photobucket.

Can anybody tell me what the difference (primarily in sound) between these two basses are? 400 and 600 are OK too, but I'm looking to get the five string version.

I used to own the EDB600 and loved the sound and feel of it, and I want to get the 605 but wanted to know if the 405 is one I can also consider.
