As far as which pickups are the "best" or sound a specific way, I have no idea. And I believe any preamp will work, as long as it fits in the body cavity and the harness has the proper number of knobs/switches etc. They have plenty of options on the site. I'm looking into an NTMB preamp for now, the 5.2 AP to be exact.
Hopefully that helps, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "direct replacement".

BTW, has anyone ever switched out the preamp on their Ibanez Prestige basses? My avatar is way out of date, but I've been using a Prestige 5006EOL as my main bass for almost a year now. I really like it except for the preamp, and the control cavity is pretty small, so I don't know what would fit in there. |

Then unlatch the case but don't open it. Let it sit like that for 15-30. You should be good to go. Finishes just don't like sudden shock.

It may have been reboxed with the bass in the bag ????. My wife said the box did not feel cold, I'll see what it feels like when I get home (5:30 ish). Thanks.

If it came from MF then yes, a few hours is good.

Everything else looked good, except the fretboard needs oiled. The relief was perfect, no adjustment needed. I did drop the saddles a bit to get the action lower. I have to admit that I'm surprised just how low the action can go. Plays great. My initial impression of the pre amp is just ok. Can someone tell what frequencies the switch controls? I'll post pictures soon.
