I'm definitely considering some flatwound or tapewounds. I have D'Addario stainless rounds on it and sounds great, but I want to see what other sounds I can get out of it.
You're right. It is a soft body bass. I'm going to do it mostly by hand and then oil/stain it. I know basswood isn't that pretty to look at, but I think it's worth a shot. | Love to see it when you get through with the refinishing.
Cheers

Current Ibanez is an Ashula fretted/fretless 6 string. Why you ask? 'cause it made me go
My first Ibanez and first 6-string: a black and gold Soundgear circa 90ish

| | | Cool looking Ibbys, guys
Speaking of cool instruments, any of you attending the NAMM show? Any news & photos of new products? TalkBass seems unusually quiet on the subject this year...

Thanks. Luck or not, the fretted one was my only bass for a decade, saw me through many gigs and recordings, and has some mods. It'll be mine til I die, with any luck.
If curious, pics are on page 26 of this thread...

| | | Hi Everyone -
Here are some pics of my 1996 SR1200 in Butterscotch (I believe, looks more honey colored than the Naturals I've seen). I haven't seen many SR1200s from this era, the few I've seen have been the trans turquoise.
I bought this back in 97 while in college, was my workhorse for quite some time. This is the fastest neck I've ever played before! It's been relegated to back up duty for a handful songs that we play in alternate tunings - but she's still got a lot of punch and I still love the way she looks. It was my second Ibanez, my first was a red EXB445 - which I sold to help fund this back in the day.
My experience with the thin, fast SR neck led me to get a custom Stingray with the SLO special neck made once I got enough to buy a new bass. I couldn't deal with the chunky normal bass neck! |

| | | Here are my two Ibanez basses, an SR300 and SR375 fretless.
I was VERY disappointed to see that the BTB575 was discontinued. I haven't seen a single one used yet, and I was planning on getting one this year. |

| | | | Ibanez shows some nice stuff at the NAMM show. Too bad that the BTB basses are only neck-through build..

| | | Awesome looking SRs, guys As usual, their basses look a lot better in reality than in their website photos (I can't understand why they can't match the real coloura and over expose the pics).
As for NAMM...I would like to see some close ups - 'cause the Ibanez website is a totalmess these days and their "promo" photos suck
