Does that crazy Percy Jones wooden-bodied thing count? I would eat flies for that one.

Still one of my favorites though. |

| | | | Ever since I sat in on bass for my friends band. The first time I had ever played bass, mind you... I was hooked. And ever since that day, I have been searching for my perfect "tone."
I had played a 5 string Ibanez soundgear for a long time (until it was smashed by my guitarist; but that's another story) through a Ampeg BA 115, then an Ampeg 210. Loved how it sounded but it wasnt quite the sound I wanted.
After moving from the college town and gettin my dream job I was on a search for a new bass for a new music project. After countless hours of research I came across the eda905. The look, the design, the uniqueness of it drew me to it. And after a lucky find on craigslist, I am the proud owner of silver Ibanez EDA905.
The low end of the bar pickup coupled with the high crunch of the peizos make for almost endless tone shaping possibilities.
I love the feel of it, although my action on the higher notes is about a mile also. I run it through the following:
Bass>boss tu2 tuner>wah>sansamp programmable bass driver>tech 21 rvb boost>boss ce5 chorus>boss bf3 flanger>boss dd3 delay>markIV Head>Laney 1x15, 2x10 cab
Talk about punch and crispness! If I could fix the action a bit, this would be my ultimate setup and get any kind of sound I want. I play mostly hard rock/prog grunge stuff and love my tone. I play with all my knobs all the way up on my bass and really crank the shti outta it.
The only thing I am still not great at is the volume knobs for the peizos. Not really knowing where the middle or starting point is, I am just trying to get all the strings to be at the same level (anyone else having trouble with em?).
Anyway, love it. I would definitely buy another if it got stolen or broken. I like that they are hard to find too. I've never seen the mat black ones. I bet their awesome looking. |

Hey there, phoenixgraves; I have an EDA905F (fretless)
and still love it, although I haven't played it in a while. See my post #13 in this thread.
As for getting your ideal tone out of this bass, You've got to play with all the controls yourself and see what you like.
I'll try to help you out as much as I can; here are my recommendations.
Turn all the individual string volume controls on the back of the bass to maximum, then listen to hear if any of the strings are noticeably louder than the others. If any of them are, adjust them accordingly.
Keep the piezo volume control on the back of the bass at maximum, and adjust the piezo volume on the front of the bass to get the desired sound you like in relation to the magnetic pup's volume.
I found that if I leveled out the volume between the piezos and the magnetic pup using the piezo volume control on the back of the bass, the piezos lost a lot of their punch.
So, I leave the rear piezo volume control at maximum, and add as much piezo volume as I want using the front piezo volume control.
I always run the mag pup volume at maximum, and the front piezo volume control anywhere from 1/3 to half.
This lets the piezos compliment the darker tone of the mag pup nicely. If I run the front piezo volume any higher that about half, they start to overpower the magnetic pup.
Do not ever slap with the piezos at maximum volume, and maximum treble!
Deafness may result!
Good luck with your EDA.
Any other questions, just ask.
You've rekindled my interest in this bass with your post, thanks.

The action is fantastic and unlike all of my other 5s, I can slap on it since the string spacing is wider at the bridge than on the rest of them. I am a big fan of Ibanez's SR series models and own several, and this one definitely stands out. It sounds like nothing else in my bass collection. I also own a Fender Nashville Deluxe Telecaster with the Fishman Powerbridge that I am quite fond of, and after playing the Ibanez I have come to the conclusion that piezos + electric instruments are all that in my book.
Like I always do with my Ebay purchases, I took the bass to my tech to give it once-over since he often sees things that I don't (e.g., frets coming up, small neck humps). He gave it a clean bill of health and then offered to buy it from me. Normally he just rolls his eyes whenever I bring him yet another Ebay purchase to look at, so his reaction really surprised me. As other folks have said, you need to take some time to tweak the knobs, but it's totally worth it. |

This thread amazes me, in that it gets a post so infrequently, but by those very dedicated to this unusual bass.
I love mine.

| | | | I think piezo is a company almost positive i read that somewhere. Im a proud owner of a blue Eda 900 , the electronics almost blew up because of a bad wiring but thankfully it got fixed. I love it . Ive just started playing again after a long time . And am not sure if the eda 900 is more of a special weapon or it can be used as a monster main bass. I love the gritty sound i get from it but since my Amp was stolen i cant make a dissison until i get a new one (playing on a loaner MicroMark amp and i am gona try the bass on a ampeg ba300 210 |

These basses don't hold much value, so you could always keep your eyes open for a used one (eBay or whatnot) and use that to salvage parts from? Quote:

These differ from most pickup styles which rely on movement through a magnetic field to generate a voltage

Try contacting them http://www.fishman.com/ |

They may have all been made within a one year period.
I have a 5 string fretless EDA905F, which I bought brand new from Musician's Friend in 2003. They sold out shortly thereafter.
These basses seem to be developing a cult following, like a low-budget movie that doesn't catch on 'till years after its release.
It's sad, because they are very unique instruments.
Its strongest point: The shape and comfort. This is the most comfortable bass I've ever played. The Ibanez engineers really did their homework when designing this bass.
Its weakest point: The EQ system. It's just plain weird. While you can get some very useful tones from this bass, it takes a lot of time experimenting. I think the average person who tried one out in a store got frustrated, and hung it back up on the wall.
Good luck with yours.
