For anyone in Toronto, Paul's Boutique now not only has an Ibanez musician (appears to be passive only), but also a VERY nice Greco Musician copy. Check them out if you're in the Kensington Market area.

Since I'm good on the Musician front, I picked up a super cool Rickenbacker copy by Logical.

I'm a fan of Greco stuff, have you tried the Musician copy? And how much are they asking for it?

I didn't try it, sadly. I was too distracted by the excellent Rickenbacker copy by Logical Guitars that I ended up buying. The Greco was about $600 if I recall correctly.

Hi everybody, I am a new one on Talkbass, so nice to meet you. My story with Musician is very very curious. At the beginning I have to mention that I come from Czech Republic. I bought my MC924 in 1981 and it was the time when the communist party run the country. You see, at that time the law was strict and there were lots of restrictions. There was almost no chance to buy a good instrument from abroad. Simply, you had to risk and do something illegal. I bought German Marks illegally and sent it to Germany (of course illegally). Later Ibanez Musician MC924 was sent to me as a wedding present, which was one of the ways to get some goods from abroad. You can imagine how happy I was.
Unfortunatelly, several months later Police came and I was under investigation. They got some prooves, and eventually they confiscated my bass. The court said that I was very dangerous for our communist country and I tried to damage our economy : ) No way to defend at that time. The good thing was, I was allowed to buy this confiscated bass in auction. So I paid second time for my bass (half of the original price approximately). Then I kept my Musician for several years. However in 1991 I sold it. Well, this is my story. However strange it sounds, it is true.
The thing is I regret selling my beloved Musician. Lately I have been looking for the same model I had. It means Musician MC924 made in 1980 or 1981. Nevertheless, this time I would rather buy a fretless model MC940 (also made in 1980 or 1981). I hope that I will be lucky and I will find one somewhere, in a very good condition. Sorry for such a long post. Kind regards!

Sounds incredible. Unfortunately the neck on mine has warped and now not really playable or fixable.

First off, thanks for the amazing story! I can understand why you miss your bass - my 1980 MC924 is what inspired me to start this thread. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I see anything.

Welcome to TB!

Hi Alex, I have listened to your music and it is great.

Just one more piece of information regarding my Musician. The good thing is I sold it to my friend. So, I can see it from time to time. Unfortunately he does not want to sell it back (at least now).

Thanks for any information if you should encounter one. As I wrote, I look for a fretless version, made in 1980 or 1981.

Nice to be here on TB, among you all : )

William,
I actually had a 940. Special ordered it, bought it on layaway, played it as my only bass for around 6 years. Foolishly sold it in a fit of debt, and have missed it every day since. My first really good bass.

I would love to have it again, or one like it.

They are worth looking for.

(sigh)

Say Matt, don't think it came up in this thread yet, but do you happen to know what strings were on it for the "Between the Cracks" recording?

Should I be ashamed to admit that it still has the same strings on it as when I bought it? Sorry Alex, I don't have a clue what they are. Something funky, I guess.

Um... I hope you don't mean me. None of my music in this thread, it belongs to Matt (KCLRbass).

But glad to hear you got your Musician back!

Hey man,

and now: KEEP THAT BASS!!!!!!!!!!
Don't sell it again!

Not only because those Musicians are great basses - but for your bass being a "story bass" - it's on itself part of your history and part of the history of your country!

Greetz from Germany

To all you Musician lovers. I've finally got video footage of my Musician in action. We just posted a video of us covering 2+2=5 by Radiohead at a coffee shop in Toronto.

Enjoy!

I was walking by some pawn shop and I saw one of this babies, since I didn't had the money to buy it, I gave'em some money so they wouldn't sell it to any one else (my English sucks, I know). But one thing is bothering me since then, the serial number on that bass was E82XXXX, it was a NT (natural) colored bass but as far as I know there was not NT models made in 1982. I can't figure out the model of that bass. Can any one help me? It has six knobs and the active/passive switch and that's it. It was a great deal since the price was around $200 bucks, but for that price I'm a little afraid it might be a copy. Thanks for your help.

BTW, nice score with this bass dude, I can only hope to be as lucky as you!

EDIT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezoe3sGOwtM

This one looks kind of like the one I'm buying, but as I say, mine is NT colored Musician from 1982. (Please do not pay attention to the guy on the video )

You're wrong, a NT Musician was produced at least from '79 to '85. But to make sure it's not a copy you should take a picture and post it.

I stop by the pawn shop yesterday and ask them to let me see the bass and the wouldn't let me until I make all the payments. But on the bright side, it was only $200 bucks, so if it turns out to be a copy, it might be a good purchase anyway cause I tested it and it sound very good. Can any one tell me what model is it? Remember, six knobs, active/passive switch and the output jack on the side, not in the front.
