If someone handed you $3000 for a new bass

and you had to buy an electric bass and any remaining money has to be returned, what would you buy? You can joke if you want to, but I'm looking for realistic answers.

If I had 3K I'd look for a Super J or Super P. I'm GASing for Dingwalls so that would be my choice right now.

I would put it towards my current Fodera build.

But to answer your question, I don't personally think there is a better bass available for approx $3000 than a used MTD USA, Sadowsky NYC or Spector USA.

I'd get a Warmoth with all the "bells and whistles." It wouldn't come to $3000 but it would be incredible. I'd also consider a Mike Lull or another Modulus.

Yeah I would probably go for a Sadowsky NYC.
That or buying an SX and dumping as much money as I can into making it the SX'iest (pun unapologetically intended) bass it could be just cause I could.

I've played Sadowskys, Laklands, Lulls, etc. If someone handed me that cash and said that, I'd likely just buy another Carvin SB5000, but with some nicer options that the ones I already own.

Already have a vintage Rick,...so I'd shop around hard for a 60's - mid 70's P Bass.

I played one of those last week. Nice bass, kinda heavy, pretty pricey as well.

A pre-EB StingRay or a 80's Spector NS-2.
