Interesting sound

I have a question about my bass and amp combo.

My amp, when it is standing alone, nothing connected, just sitting there, is quite no extra sounds coming out.

When I plug my bass into the amp, I get a high pitched sound.

I turned my treble knob down and it is less noticable I also turn down the mid a little bit and I still hear it.

I touch the metal plug and it get more quiet but still there.

I have a different cord that is rubber all over with just the metal plug sticking out so that I can plug it into my amp.

I think it sounds like a grounding issue but why would it change with the different cords unless there are wires damaged somewhere through the cord.

I have stepped on the cord sometimes when I practice so maybe it is my fault, but what can be making this sound??

I assume youre referring to the bass listed in your signature. Did you try replacing the battery?
