J. Backlund Design NAMM 2013

Okay, here are some pics hot off the presses of the NAMM 2013 J. Backlund Design Retronix basses. Suzanne thinks of all of the colors, I would look best wearing the red. What do you think?

(For all colors, look here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ea753215e2e97e)

There's a possibility of us having the option to select a maple fretboard. If that's the case, shell pink. hands down.

If not, I'm torn between the red, seafoam, and purple.

Yes, plassive with old school P bass single coils and five way switch, one volume one tone.

Rad. So, what's the story with these? Pledge $500? So do you get the bass for $500? Also, is there a plan to have a black one w/ a tort pg?

Unfortunately the Kickstarter campaign is over, and I believe it is closed. But you can try it and see if it works.

Yes, if you contributed to the Kickstarter campaign, for $500 or more you get your choice of a guitar or bass. In mine and Primus's case, we chose bass. Which is way below what these will be retail.

There will be a black one, and right now like the original prototype black guitar it will have a white pickguard. I was talking to Bruce Bennett and he said they are thinking about offering replacement pickguards in black pearl, white, white pearl and tort. I would contact J. Backlund and ask.

So you know, Bruce Bennett is a certified Master Luthier, and he worked for Tobias/Steinberger (Gibson era), was the founder of Warrior Basses and is now the luthier with J. Backlund Design. Kevin Maxfield, the general manager, was a long time Mosrite sales rep, working with Semie up until his death. So there is some nice bass history there as well.

The pickguard is decorative. Cool, but decorative. I have seen the bass without the guard, and I personally don't like it nearly as much as with the pickguard.

I was thinking purple, but my wife vetoed that. So right now its the red, then maybe the black.

When we get them, since you are close, lets meet in the city and take some shots of the basses, have some shots at a bar (Otto's Shrunken Head maybe?) and meet in person.

Funny, Tom - I can see you rockin' that white one... Although the SFG/tort combo is no joke, either!

My wife makes me, very, very, very happy, if you know what I mean.

Not worth choosing a purple bass over happy endings...

And, she probably is right, she would look better posed behind the red one ala Liz Phair....

Actually Busker, you probably have seen me rocking my US Custom JBD-800 in the white that I posted. So, gotta be another color. So, red or black?
