Also it's funny how both the twins inherited the double jointed thumb from their dad. As can be seen in the previous poster's link.

I know he used 66's, but I'm wondering if they put on some more fingerboard friendly strings. The BOD's been through enough.

I get the sense he's laying down a groove for his dad to play along with up there.

I once began to ask about Jaco about his right hand thumb, specifically its famous double-jointedness... but as soon as he heard "thumb", he assumed I was talking about slapping, and he interrupted me rather intensely with, "No thumb! No thumb!"

Jaco once sat down with Marcus Miller, Marcus was doing his funky slap thing and Jaco just looked at him and said "yeah yeah, I can do all that stuff too, I just DON'T "

Genuinely curious if there's a source for this story. I've heard something similar before.

So... did he actually yell "don't" or was that personally applied for emphasis?

YouTube has a short interview with Marcus in which he tells the story. Sounded like he didn't yell "don't" but stressed it to Marcus (in typical cocky jaco style) "I Don't" ,like that's fine if you guys wanna play that thumping stuff but that ain't where it's at"- sort of comment.

If that's how the original story went, you should have told it to others as it went down

And for the record Jaco did on occasion thump.

You can watch the video below, starts at about 1:20. Everyone can make up their own impression of it , I simply tried to express the story the way I saw it. And that is how I still see it. Given jaco's attitude towards slap style and just jaco's personality , I interpreted it as I saw fit . Take into account Jaco's "above the norm" personality and Marcus's laid back personality and story telling , i could totally see Jaco being a little cocky in his statement , whether it be he was intimidated by MM or be it he really thinks less of the slapping style or perhaps he just shunned it because he knows he isn't that great at it....watch and form your own thoughts as to how it went down.😊

The way Marcus described it, there definitely was no attitude coming from Jaco about the whole slap thing. Sounded more like a chilled yeah I can do that but I just choose not to.
