Ibanez is great and a classic. (I own an SR506) But it's not the SAME classic as a Fender Jazz. Two DIFFERENT classics!
And a while back I got taken with the Steve Bailey idea of a classic Fender passive Jazz in 6 string. But having no Bailey budget (or Low End budget for that matter which is THE place to go get what I'm talking about) I opted for the SX 6ers when they hit our shores.
I bought three! Yes, they were SX meaning they needed some mods. Some shielding, some setup, some strings, maybe a little fret filing, but just compare to the alternative of THREE Low End 6ers! Yikes!
In the end I was HIGHLY impressed! HIGHLY! I Dig what the Steve Bailey thing is all about. I ended up with one SX converted to fretless and the other two fretted but one with flats and one with rounds. A trio of absolutely amazing old school but 6er basses!
Downside is SX do not have 24 frets which I love. But up side is I didn't have to fork Low End level cash to get 24 frets.
For the low cash involved, I'd suggest giving SX a try even if you have to pay a bit more to have the mods and setup done.
