Johnny Christ Signature Bass

The bassist from Avenged Sevenfold recently got a signature bass from Schecter that has a guitar pickup along with a bass pickup (first bass I've heard of like that) it also has an ebony neck (also strange to me), any thoughts?

Ebony neck?

No, ebony fingerboard. Maple neck. Ebony is a common fingerboard wood. The EMG 81 neck pickup is pretty strange, but I'm sure it works well enough. Carvin used to use standard guitar humbuckers as bass pickups. It's uncommon, but not unheard-of.

I really wonder how basses like this sound with modern hi-gain guitar pickups, very interesting

Love the black and gold.
Not sure about why an EMG 81 (the EMG HB is the same size, but made for bass)... but maybe it's the best for metal.

I read he does has the 81 for an adjustable distortion from the bass, and not losing low end. Not sure how it's gonna sound though. Myself would rather use pedals and or the amp head for that.
