What I always liked most about the Q6 I used to own years ago was that the neck was incredibly stable. Temperature and humidity changes had NO effect on the action whatsoever. In that sense, they are the perfect touring basses.

You can do a gig in a snowy climate, hop on a plane and play in 80 degree heat on a beach and that bass will play consistently with no adjustments needed. Heck, if I didn't bump a tuning peg getting it in and out of the case I almost never needed to tune it....

You have to like a glossy back of neck, though. I personally missed the feel of wood under my palm......

Nice! I used to, but I had to cut mine (was mid back length) for a job interview and now it wouldn't even cause a ripple effect LOL!

BTW, I didn't even get the job! LOL!

First thing to do when you win a lottery / land in a six-figure job / sell the car (unrealistic for some cars though) - Get a brand-new TBX.

I had one that had the neck satinized so it was pretty soft and smooth to the touch. Still missed wood, which is why I've had several genesis jazzes since, which I really love. I wish they had made a Genesis Q, I would be all over one of those!

The Quantum TBX is a neck-through bass. I haven't kept track of Modulus products since the Geoff Gould years (my 92 Q5 has been trouble-free!) but unless the design has been revived I don't think they have been made for many years.

Yes, they can be. You can find them used for around $1500.

Or more depending on what you get for options.

It's a top quality bass.

New q5 retail for $3,500 - $3,800,

I kept my eye on the market for a while and prices fluctuated between $1,500 and $2,500 seemingly very dependent on the overall condition of the bass . I hit a good spot for just about 2 flat - it's close to perfect condition

Haha YEAH! Nice bass and welcome to the club! I remember how my mind was blown way back in 92 when I opened the case on a Q5 that had just arrived at the music store. It was trans green quilt with an old school kahler bridge. I immediately put it on lay away. Back then I got it and the case for 2k. I traded it in for $1600 in 2002. A little later I bought the Q5 I have now. Completely reliable basses that look, sound and play great that almost never need to be tuned. Tough to beat. Congrats!

Congrats on the Q5! Now you know why they refer to the fretboards on those as "landing strips"! It looks like the deck of an aircraft carrier. Lol...

Nice bass!

The ONLY negative with a Q5 IMO is the tight spacing.... IF you slap.

Bugs me a bit, but I love my Q5 (and Q4)!

any particular gauge of strings bring out characteristics in the graphite necks different than wood?

this came set up with very light gauged strings, which ive liked, and found slapping to be easy. I could see with larger gauge strings the spacing could impede on that?

I am using light (,040-.120) Fodera nickels on my Q5 and of the 10+ different brands/gauges of strings I have tried on this bass, the Foderas are the best. Surprisingly pretty inexpensive.
