just took my fender out of the closet.

sure. i like high end basses as much as the next guy. people i've gigged with for many years have never seen me play a 4 string bass.

but, as we've seen and heard and discussed in probably more than half of the threads in this forum; theres something very lovely about the simplicity that a nice fender bass has to it.

this particular bass- an '89-90 USA fender p/j. black/white. it was my first bass. i learned on a borrowed ibanez starter bass, saved every penny i could for a long time, and eventually brought this baby home.

it's been in my closet (literally) for probably 2 years now. has not been played for more than 5 minutes for probably 6+ years. it's got a few minor issues, a strange output jack thats too large for the cavity.. needs to be adjusted here and there.. ext. but my god, it feels good to play a simple, 4 string, nice, fender bass.

so if anyone else has an old fender bass sitting in the closet not being touched, here i am, a passionate lover of high end boutique electric extended range basses, encouraging you to take it out for the day and go nuts.

ahh... motown never sounded so good.

that will be all.

Well you know maybe I'm a bit like the OP. I have an amazing Fodera that is my main player. I have an old Rickenbacker 4001 fretless that I will keep forever because it is my first real bass. I have a Musicman Sterling which is right for certain situations, and then...

I have my Fender Jazz. Oly White. Tort Guard. Rosewood. MIA. There's nothing like it. I reach for it, plug it in and.... Fender comes singing through the speakers. Long live Leo and his creations!

I have my first bass, a '75 p-bass, in my closet. Bought it used in '78. It was in "like new" condition then. I played it as my main bass for 10+ years, so it has it's share of dings and scratches.
I do pull it out every now and then and it still plays and sounds good, but I've played 5 string Jazz basses since '92.
Recently I got to missing that solid p-bass thump and I purchased a Am Srnd P5. It has that same p-bass sound. I'll be using it as my main bass now.
