I've recently thinned the herd down to 3 basses, a six string electric, and a classical. | Hey, I own 5 Krappy's and am neither rich (nor broke, after purchasing them). So I think your solution is staring you right in the face. You don't need to justify Krappy to your lady. Krappy IS the justification ! You just gotta phrase it the right way:
"Well honey, I really got my eye on this deluxe $1500 axe. But of course I realize that would not be a wise expenditure. And because I am SO frugal and SO budget-minded, what I will do instead is buy a cheap-o bass from this guy who makes inexpensive guitars out of scrap wood and junked parts."

Guess I better put on my 'big boy pants' and make a decision... |

It's finished! Shipping out on Monday. So excited to get my hands on it. I'm really impressed with Kevin's workmanship, just from the pictures - he took a crappy (no pun intended) mock up from a paint program and knew exactly what I wanted out of it. Late next week/weekend can't come soon enough...

Nice looking instrument, though, that's for sure. Welcome to Krappy-dom. Hope you like attention. Krappy's tend to attract a crowd wherever you bring them.

Plays great, looks great, I couldn't be happier. I have to say, to anyone who's interested in one of Kevin's instruments, get in touch with him. Great guy to work with, and I'm just thrilled with the instrument.
Now to keep adjusting to the massive fretboard...

Actually makes it a little easier to play the fundamental and the octave courses separately. Considering how fast I designed it, how fast Kevin built it and how little it cost, I have zero complaints about it.

After watching Kevin's work for a couple of years and mulling it over endlessly, I finally figured out what I want to have made.
My first email was mid-morning, and before lunch I had sent him a deposit. It will be a 6 string, octave course, EeAaDd, fretted, and presumably awesome.
I chose a body shape, but I'm leaving much of the particulars up to him. Can't wait to see where this ends up.
No pics, because no bass yet. As I get pictures of the progress, I will share them here.
Peace, JBY

I really happy with his interpretation of the photo I sent him. The body is based on the Dragonwing, from Alembic.
Then today I got some pictures of clamps.
I'm already a happy Krapper, and it's only just begun.

Very cool. | This is a question based on niavity - but would the paired string be tuned an octave apart? I'm trying to visualize (conceptualize?) how this would work and what it would sound like...
