There are people who will pay $400 and up for a dress shirt because it is hand-sewn without a sewing machine. Of course, not everyone cares about things being handmade and few people are willing to pay a premium for it. However, there are people who will.

Really? Why would it be worth more than a hand-finished bass that had been cut by a CNC router? The difference would be in how much labor cost the builder has in it. It wouldn't necessarily be better.

Obviously. It'd be pretty tough to program a CNC machine to do that to a piece of wood.

that's not as ridiculous as it might seem.
there are plenty of places to get "licensed fender parts" and put together a P bass for in this ballpark, and, even builders doing it.
