Anyone who's wondering about rocking a pink bass should ask Munji for a pic of his Lakland.

Goldie indeed I usually don't name my basses...ever...but this just happened. All gold everything! (well, you know, not really, but lots of gold)

She was wearing flats for the longest time and it sounded KILLER...and then I decided to throw a set of Rotosound swing 66 nickles on her and bam! THAT is a good sounding bass! Changing from flats to rounds has given me room to tweak the bass a little bit, bring the action down...which I haven't done yet but today is my day off so there's a good chance it'll happen soon.

As long as I find a box for the body, the bass gets sent off today! I hope a refin doesn't take TOO dang long, I likely won't see the shortie in all her glory until next year, but I feel it'll be worth the wait.

Sure the 66 nickles sound great on it!
I used those strings a lot over time, great strings.
Looking forward to seeing it when it is completed...

Finished with a few more things on my new 44-01. New pick guard, Lakland tone knob, jazz bass knobs on the rest, hipshot drop tuner along with the rest of the tuners now USA to match it. I kinda like it. Sorry for phone pic!

Another maybe clearer, and with my foot! I think this one represents the actual color a bit better.

Did you have an issue getting the US tuners to fit? I thought there was a thickness difference that made replacing those a bit of a chore.

Not at all, when you call hipshot you just have to make sure you tell them it is a skyline and they send a different nut at no charge that fits just fine. This is the second skyline I have replaced them on, I find the licensed fine but definitely looser. And I like the drop tuner but hate them to not all match.

Now that *is* interesting. Very.

Yeah. If you call Lakland, however, they will tell you no way USA won't fit - hipshot is like " sure, you just need the smaller nut". If I remember they said it was a Fender nut. It is funny cause Lakland will sell you a drop tuner that is USA.

I did this to my Skyline with the standard nuts. It really isn't a big deal to enlarge the holes a little. I did it in just a few minutes with a dremel.

Changing to the Hipshot HB6C tuning machines on a Skyline 4-String is a pretty simple task. Note - the HB6C Tuning Machines are what you will find on Lakland US 5-Strings.

However, changing to the Hipshot HB1 Tuning. Machines on a Lakland Skyline 4-String Series are what present the real challenge - though not impossible. This is because the Tuning.Machine holes are closer together which prevents a "Drop-In" solution. I personally enjoyed the challenge making this work. Enlarging the holes was required. However the HB1s also required modification of three of the base plates as they are about 1/16" too big and will not work as shipped.

It was a fun project and worth it. I prefer the look of the smooth round bezels on the front face of the head. I also like challenges.
